The playing of the Alvarez Piano Quartet remains untarnished by routine even after twenty years. Its members not only take joy in performing but also in listening, prioritizing expression over flawless perfection. This approach yields an exceptionally vivid, high-contrast interpretation of Schubert’s evergreen work—one that makes it easy to overlook minor technical imperfections. Here, the Allegro vivace of the first movement is taken seriously: instead of contemplative Biedermeier idyll, a restless tension emanates from the piano, logically rejecting any repeat of the exposition… In short: Far from a boring production!
