"The real event on this CD is the presentation of the [...] Trio by Alfred Schnittke [...] for example, the way the simple "Happy-Birthday" motif at the beginning is used to set off espressive, sometimes catastrophic Mahler reminiscences, is highly exciting, particularly as the musicians play it almost suggestively and with extreme emotional intensity, skill and bravura. [...] With this fascinatingly brilliant and meticulous production, Spreer has once again surpassed himself." (Stereoplay)

Rondo. Das Klassik & Jazz Magazin –
... However, it must also be played with such fiery intensity, such technical sovereignty, and such complete identification as it is here by the Gaede Trio—comprising Daniel Gaede, concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic, and Thomas Selditz and Andreas Greger, principal violist and cellist of Barenboim’s Staatskapelle Berlin. Since the Mozart-transcribed Bach and the early yet substantial Beethoven are also wonderfully successful, and the sound engineering captures pure, unadulterated natural sound, this CD is the first insider’s tip of the year. May it not remain a secret for long.
Klassik heute –
The musicians are superbly attuned to one another, responding with agile flexibility and exploiting dynamic contrasts to the fullest. The result is thrilling, brilliant Beethoven playing. The dry, precise acoustics bring these strengths to the fore beautifully.

... It (Schnittke) has been recorded several times; EMI′s release, with Kremer, Bashmet, and Rostropovich is probably the best-known version. The Gaede Trio achieves greater sense of ensemble but still manages to project comparable drama and tension across the score′s 29-minute span ... The sound is superb, the program is unusual, and the playing is first-rate.
