Description

"[...] Gaede’s Kreisler recording, on the other hand, is enchanting. The thirty-year-old violinist plays with a spirit we thought had died out. His playing technique is lit with a rare turn-of-the-century charm. He implores and pleads, he whistles, his chords sparkle, his frantic pace makes the violin laugh with merriment. Here is someone who has managed to regain Kreislerian innocence." (FonoForum)

  1. Stereoplay

… Gaede draws the listener deep into the pieces; his rubato, his ability to linger, to accentuate, his tonal caressing, his almost petting phrasing invite one to follow along, to continue listening with full engagement. – I have not experienced this with any more recent recordings of Kreisler pieces. I was reminded of the warmth and narrative joy of the “old virtuosos.” Francescatti, Elman, Campoli, Gingold, Heifetz, and of course Kreisler himself may attend Gaede’s violin Olympus – with his homage, he pays tribute to them all.
