Claus Kanngiesser, the grandson of a pupil of Max Reger, studied with Pablo Casals and played with Rudolf Serkin, amongst others. After decades of occupying himself with the cello suites of Johann Sebastian Bach, he has now undertaken a recording of these pieces for Edition EigenArt at TACET. In his very distinctive and personal way of playing, he questions interpretative rituals and taboos of playing technique, supplying information concerning these matters in an interview in the accompanying booklet. A most interesting recording.
