The Polish Chamber Philharmonic and Wojciech Rajski have already recorded a refreshingly vibrant Mozart LP for the tube-purist Tacet label; now comes one of the true heavyweights of the classical repertoire. Beethoven’s “Seventh” Symphony, with its seemingly formal yet architecturally daring structure, may well be the crowning achievement of the genre (at least in its original form). The very tight, crystal-clear, and highly transparent performance by the Polish ensemble brings Beethoven’s ingenious construction beautifully to light: no romanticizing curtains obscure the picture. Compared to most existing recordings, the orchestra is quite small—but this is by no means a disadvantage. Its size may actually be very close to that of Beethoven’s own time, and it is precisely this lean sound body that makes the charm of this recording! Naturally, this Tacet LP was also produced entirely in transistor-free analog technology, down to the over-50-year-old tube microphones (Neumann M 49!).

(...) I had already learned at the High End in Munich that Andreas Spreer of the TACET label had released another LP whose entire production relies solely on tube technology. Shortly thereafter, the review copy arrived. The gatefold cover, 180-gram vinyl, and clearly meticulous pressing are a pleasure. The recording took place in a Polish church using just two tube microphones, Neumann M49s.
Empfehlenswert!
