1. Classical CD Review – 1. August 2014

   Tacet is a remarkable company! Their concept of surround sound really is surround, an approach I heartily endorse. This site has viewed many of their recordings, in particular the Beethoven symphonies (only No. 9 is yet to be released), with the highest praise. Their sound is natural and imaginative, instruments heard from all corners of the listening area, the listener right in the middle. It is a glorious listening experience, and on this new disk you have an opportunity to sample their imaginative approach to recording.
   We have orchestral and chamber music of Beethoven, piano music of Ravel and Mussorgsky, orchestral and choral music of Bach, and chamber music of Schubert. For each track there is a diagram showing placement of instruments. And there are many tracks of non-musical audio to display true surround sound including a Check his out—for audiophiles it is a remarkable experience!

   Right in the middle there instead of just
   How can music be brought even closer to listeners? TACET is the German record company that most persistently experiments with all kinds of sound discs. In addition to stereo media CD and LP, the audiophile label offers SACD, DVD-Audio, and Blu-ray Audio with multichannel surround recordings. The Blu-ray is used on the home theater system and allows a choice between two-channel and six-channel versions. It has space for about two and a half hours of music. The screen shows only the tracklist, so it can remain dark. However, the music fills the room in an unprecedented way. Following Mozart with the wind serenade known as "Gran Partita" and Ravel including Bolero, Pavane, and Tzigane, TACET now presents the multi-award-winning cycle of Haydn's string quartets. The latest release includes the six masterpieces of Opus 76, including the so-called Emperor Quartet: The listener sits between the instruments, with the violins in front, viola and cello behind. Unless, of course, the listener turns around. Here, the customer is literally an emperor.

   TACET, the company of German audio expert Andreas Spreer, is highly experimental in the field of surround sound for classical music. "Real Surround" promises an experience that goes far beyond what you’d hear in a concert hall—far surpassing conventional surround sound, where rear speakers merely add ambient acoustics to approximate the venue’s original sound in your living room. With Real Surround, the listener is immersed right in the heart of the sound. Admittedly, this isn’t "natural," but those who reject such an experience might as well avoid visiting parks and stick to untouched, pristine forests instead. This DVD offers a great opportunity to sample Real Surround through excerpts from various TACET productions, and it even includes a well-designed test track to evaluate your own surround sound system. Highly recommended for this reason alone!
