"Where should I begin? With the music or the recording technology? Both are equally thrilling!..." (Pizzicato) "Now, without wishing to go OTT about it, this is one SACD which I think I can unreservedly recommend to EVERY reader of this website who likes classical music. I′d personally go so far as to rate it as probably the most important issue sound-wise I′ve come across in listening to multichannel CDs, indeed in my entire adult listening experience (stretching back thirty years now)…" (Terence Blain on SACD.net)

Audiophile Audition –
(...) This splendid multichannel DVD-Audio recording by the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra under Wojciech Rajski features playing of expressive urgency and interpretive depth that rivals one of the major orchestras. Although they perform on modern instruments their playing features a transparency and lightness that one usually associates with a period instruments orchestra. Tempos are brisk, vibrato is minimized and emotions are appropriate without overindulgence. These are exciting performances in what promises to be a fine series of Beethoven Symphonies recorded in excellent multichannel high resolution audio.
Tacet's engineers have created a superb and lifelike soundstage whose immediacy and presence highlights all of the power and sonic beauty of these two symphonies. Using Tacet's "Real Surround Sound" the music comes from all around you as you are placed into the very center of the orchestra. With horns coming from in front of you and trumpets from behind, loud passages have a visceral impact that kicks the excitement level up a notch. It’s a thrilling experience that perfectly matches Beethoven's robust musical style.

Whether the music-loving world really needs another symphonic Beethoven cycle from the Polish Chamber Philharmonic, or whether the 5.1 enhancement of the soundstage necessarily contributes to a deeper understanding of the works, is beside the point: in any case, the TACET recording team—long renowned for its high audiophile standards and solutions—has, without a doubt, succeeded in capturing and illuminating two hardly unknown compositions in such a way that certain facets of the scores emerge almost miraculously. While the first three movements of the Seventh Symphony initially follow the well-trodden path, and the Allegretto even tends toward slight dragging, the stormy finale decisively turns the tables in favor of both production and interpretation. This wild, stamping orgy brings previously hidden voices and motivic relationships into the spotlight—elements rarely heard with such clarity, as they are usually swept away by the trochaic drive of the music. Here, the conductor pays such noticeable attention to overarching structural connections that listeners willingly lean in, ears pricked, and follow with heightened interest the events of the Eighth Symphony, whose melodic cross-relations and layers offer all manner of unexpected surprises from start to finish. Anyone encountering this audio DVD and who enjoys following the score while listening to impeccably produced recordings would be very well served by this TACET release.
