Description

"... seldom has a string trio displayed such smooth tone and cultivated playing. Even more impressive are the apparent ease and balance; their early Schubert is calm but always so fresh and alert that it never sounds old-fashioned. This is a graceful, lilting performance; a few exaggerated phrases add colour without distorting the line (...) If this performance (Dohnanyi) fails to erase memories of the Heifetz-Primrose-Feuermann recording, it does replace that classic as the one I will listen to most often. It also reveals the Gaede's range: this could be three different ensembles, specialists in the Classical, Late-Romantic, and Expressionist repertoires." (Fanfare)

  1. Scala

… The overarching principle of this interpretation is the commitment to the inherent effect of the variations. While the musicians are inseparable from their artistry, they strive to eliminate all unnecessary subjectivity. With an almost vibrato-free tone, they create an extremely clear and transparent sound. The Aria, placed at the beginning and end, is presented with almost "sacred reverence", as if they wish to project this germinal cell—unburdened by any earthly weight—as ideal cornerstones and guiding points. Interpretation: Very good to outstanding Sound: Very good

  2. Das Orchester

… The formidable ensemble, founded in 1991 and long established as an international benchmark for the highest standards in chamber music and string culture, presents three exemplary works that highlight pivotal moments in music history. Blind understanding among the musicians is a given. They effortlessly fulfill all the traditional parameters of interpretation, masterfully handling the virtuosic elements within the intricate miniature format. But what truly sets this ensemble apart is their ability to grasp the music—and thus the soul and emotional essence behind the notes. Whether it’s Schubert’s tender early maturity, Dohnányi’s Hungarian-inflected variations, or Matthus’ wind-swept, dynamically expansive fantasy, the Gaede Trio elegantly immerses itself in each composition, uncovering its unique color and depth. Listening to these chamber musicians is simply a joy—because it’s an experience.
